Lord Logsdon now

I do a audience interactive comedy/escape show that has been tailored for period events. The audience themselves do become part of the show. Unfortunately, due to the fact that each show is slightly different because of the interaction between the audience and myself know one video can capture the magic and virtual shows are impossible for me.

I have been interested in doing entertaining the majority of my life. I actually started entertaining at the age of six and have been progressively getting better at it for the last half a century. In my early age I watched all the great vaudevillian entertainers that were lucky enough to be able to film their routines for early television. I guess I have structured my shows in the late era of performing which easily fit into events from different areas. A friend took me to a renaissance festival in the early 80s and the proverbial light went on and the next year I auditioned and got into festival performing.

I consider my home they’re the Oklahoma Renaissance festivals in Muskogee Oklahoma.

Last year or so it has been a rough limiting myself to a few safe venues and every once in a while I go out in doing some street busking.

Advice I’d give new people is make sure you have a good day job before you start performing and don’t be afraid to ask for advice from other performers.

Unfortunately, being in entertainment means that people see your show and want to emulate you. Best advice I was ever given was if you hear about people copying your show, just keep doing your show your way and enjoy just doing your show the best you can. In a year so your impersonators I’ll find someone new to impersonate.

The thing I miss most about not being at Renaissance festivals is being able to interact with extremely creative people most of which are the patrons.

I am sure Festivals will be returning in large numbers most likely a little different from what we remember, but the festivals from a few years ago are vastly distant different from the fares 15 to 20 years ago. Things do change but every time they get a little better.

I think one of the main reasons I enjoy performing at period events such as Renaissance festivals is that the vast majority of people coming are there to enjoy themselves and have immerse themselves in the surreal story line. They want to be part of the event instead of just a observer. That makes interactive shows such as mine a win-win situation for both of us.

I am always creating new interactions with people and parts to my show, not to say that I purposely go out and try to find something new but… okay this is going to sound corny… but I keep finding new and magical things out in the world and I try to figure out how to employ them into my show so other people can see some of the miracles that are in front of them every day but just don’t notice them.

One of my best experiences was a few years ago during one of my shows. For my closing affect I asked for a volunteer. A young boy about halfway back and the side of the audience was waving both his hands, so I invited him up on stage. As he was coming up I glanced back at his parents and they had a look at both shock and panic on their faces. As soon as he came up on stage and I started talking to him I realized he had Down’s syndrome and I’m sure a part of the audience realizes that as well. Anyway, he and I stayed on stage and finish the show. Anyway, like I keep stating my show is almost completely audience participation, And he and I just stayed up on stage and had the best time finishing my show and truthfully, I can say he stole the show and became the star.

Costuming, I usually go for the bare minimum, sleeveless shirt, jerkin, wrap pants, boots. Unfortunately dealing with chains, ropes, leather straps, and you name it, can easily get tangled in bits and bobs of renaissance costumes so I try to avoid clothing with loose parts

If the unthinkable happens and events start closing down again, I’m not really sure what I’ll do, maybe stay home and cry! Truthfully, I have done this for a plethora of years and I can always find a few events to work and there is always busking.

I always get asked this question what makes my act unique or different I have finally come up with a simple answer and that’s “ME” I try to put my beliefs, my humor, my experience into my shows I think that’s why people have tried doing my shows have never truly copied them.

Things that make me truly stand out? Once again, I think it’s being yourself on stage, always being polite to people, trying to make them the star of the show instead of myself, being mentored by some of the great performers in the magic field, and in finishing this the worst Segway I can be imagined on stating why I’m unique:

As Frank Sinatra said. “doing it my way”

  1. Sir Mark was literally the 1st performer I obtained for the Pagosa Springs Renaissance and Pirate Festival. He is worth 10x’s his weight in gold. He was with us until sadly that Ren Fest closed. He is a extraordinary performer.
