1. What is it that you do?
The Courtesan & The Cabin Boy (Belle Weathers [Suzanne M. Bracken] and Bo’sun Orlando di Katzer [D. Ordo Mancer]) are a musical comedy folk duo exploring fun through music & fire, most often singing songs of love, loss, libations & life at sea! We are based out of Chicago and perform at renaissance faires and events throughout the Midwest. We also offer our music online via our Bandcamp page.
2. What makes you stand out?
We met at the 2015 Stronghold Olde English Faire while our respective performing groups just happened to be singing there. It wasn’t until 6 months later when we met again at C2E2 2016 in Chicago that our collaborations began, when upon singing together for the first time, our vocal blend was miraculously perfect, to a level it takes some performers to hone, our blend was perfect right off the bat. Three months later we began performing together officially as The Courtesan & The Cabin Boy.
In 2018, three years after meeting, we were married at Stronghold Olde English Faire, after our final performance of that day and a long day of performing altogether (but hopefully not our last).
After performing as a music act, in 2019 we took of fire spinning and began offering our live musical fire spinning act, “The Courtesan & The Cabin Boy Present: Open Fire! A Show in Song & Flame!”, singing our own harmonious vocals while dancing with open fire held in the palms of our hand.
3. How do you handle thefts or copying of your works?
It hasn’t happened yet, but most of what we perform are in the public domain. We do have some original parodies that we wrote, and anything that we do sing that belongs to someone else, we do our best to credit them during our performance. We also ask permission before making/selling any recordings of anyone else’s music.

We’ve posted videos of our performances to our Facebook page, and have links to our (brief) live streamed show “Rennies in Space”. With the faires and events opening up, we also post news of our shows that we’ll have upcoming.
