1.What is it that you do or sell?
I am a fairy godmother. I sing folk songs and tell fairy tales for today’s heroes. I remind everyone how important it is to be the hero of the story of your own life.
2.Where are you located?
I currently reside in North Carolina but have lived around the world including Saudi Arabia and the Philippines. I have been blessed with a very adventurous life and speak three languages. I am a Naval veteran, stroke survivor and Virgo with ADHD. When asked where I’m from, I generally say Earth.
3.What got you interested in starting out in this business?
I created Fairy Godmother to help another performer, Grandmother Fairy, who wanted one last year performing before retirement. After that faire was done, I realized that I loved being Fairy Godmother and wanted to continue, so I wrote more material and started submitting to any faire I could find accommodations near. I did a lot of living in friends guest rooms for the first two years.
4.When did you start performing? In general,or at renaissance fests?
My first chance to work with and be part of a renaissance faire family was in 2013 or so.I first started performing as Fairy Godmother in 2021.
5.What was your local faire or home faire?
Brevard Renaissance Faire was my hometown faire and where I started.They are currently fighting to keep their faire going in the face of a city council that is changing ordinances to push them out. The last two years I have been living closer to the Carolina Renaissance Festival which is my new hometown faire.
7.What advice do you have to give to others that are just starting out in this business? Or how to stay in this business?
Do not let anyone, especially yourself, get in your way. It is so easy to give up,but you will never get on a stage, change lives,and touch hearts if you do. It is painful, hard,and lonely75% of the time. The other 25% though, you live more fully in those moments than most people will EVER live. Be kind to yourself, be authentic, and be relentless.
8 .In five years (or less) my goal is to: __________________
I would like to be the host of a children’s educational program. I would like to use song and stories to make sure that everyone sees themselves in the fairy tales. My heroes are Mr. Rodgers and Robin Williams. I love using laughter to learn.
9 .At faire, what was your garb/attire your usual go to?
I have a color palette for fairy godmother. Her costumes are yellow, teal and blue and I have a wide variety of them. I have a middle eastern fairy godmother, an Indian fairy godmother, and more. I am very much a child of many cultures and I like to have options to express them all.
10 .What makes your act/wares unique or different?
My songs are original or parodies of modern songs. My fairy tales include everyone. I have fairy tales about drug abuse, rainbow babies, human sexuality and brain injuries among others. I have been blessed with a very adventurous life and share some of the lessons I’ve learned along the way.
11.What makes you stand out?
If you ever met me, you would not have to ask. I am a fairy godmother, even in my pj’s.
