  1. What is the name of your merchant booth/business?
We are Laudate Dominum (Praise the Lord in Latin)
  2. Where are you located or where is your home faire?
We are from Buenos Aires, Argentina
  3. What is it that you do?
We play and sing medieval and Renaissance music, and teach how to dance Renaissance dances.
  4. When did you start performing or vending at Renaissance Faires?
We’ve started on October 31st 2010, at Valherjes Fair in Buenos Aires
  5. What inspired you to start performing or vending?
The fact that by 2010, in Buenos Aires and its outskirts, the music played in medieval fairs was the Lord of the Rings soundtrack, Celtic or folk metal music; no medieval nor Renaissance at all! Our director started this project so that the public of the fairs, and in particular the kids of her family, would not think that that was the music played centuries ago. Today, her 6 nephews and nieces are part of our regular audience, and the 5-year-old one can sing in Latin, Old English and Galician-Portuguese.
  6. What would you say to someone just starting out in this business?
It is not easy (at least here in Buenos Aires) to be recognized for what we do since most of the fairs’ organizers have very limited or no knowledge on early music; therefore, they do not focus on correlating the music of the fair with the period of the fair. But when people listen to us, and see us, with our clothes and instruments, they say “Hey, this is the music from those times!” And we know that we have taken the right way!
We also would tell them they will not become rich but they will have a lot of fun contributing to spread early music and to improve the quality and historical accuracy of our medieval and Renaissance fairs. Don’t give up, it is worth the effort!
  7. What would you say nicely to a promoter or producer of a faire/festival?
If you really want to make a medieval/Renaissance faire and you demand artisans to wear period costumes and sell products that existed in those times, why not to have the same requirement for the musicians?
  8. Favorite Food at Faire? What is it?
Kaban ahumados is our favorite stand: smoked meat sandwiches.
  9. What are your top 3 things you can NOT be without at Faire?
Beer, Kaban Ahumados and people (especially kids!) that want to learn how to dance a Renaissance dance!
